SEX DRUGS ROCK & ROLL

Staged inside a delivery truck, Sex Drugs Rock & Roll featured original artwork by exceptional local artists at affordable prices (at or under $200). Themed specifically for an urban, gritty vibe, Sex Drugs Rock & Roll takes an engaging, insightful, and sometimes humorous look at the music scene, drug culture, and sexuality.

Jared David Paul Anderson

Denver artist Jared David Paul Anderson creates paintings, sculptures, installations, and performance works to explore concepts of self, death, nature, past, and future. He has a BA from the University of Colorado Boulder and has studied at universities in China, Australia, and the Czech Republic.

Katy Batsel

Katy Batsel is a fiber artist living in Denver, Colorado. She explores both the subject matter and process of craft and DIY in her work. She has a B.A. from the University of Georgia in Sociology and Women's Studies.

Michael Beitz

With dual histories as an artist and furniture maker, Boulder, CO artist Michael Beitz uses furniture as a subject to address the intricacies of social interaction, personal relationships, and self-investigation. He holds a BFA from Alfred University and an MFA from the University of Buffalo.

Chloé Besson’s cyanotypes combine images from her photographic practice with original, poetic text. She received her BFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has exhibited in New York, Chicago, and the South Pacific.

Phil Bender

Denver artist Phil Bender uses the matrix as a structuring and organizing principle of his found object assemblages. His work calls attention to discarded and forgotten objects by asking viewers to re-examine the mundane, the ubiquitous, and the common. Phil graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver and is a founding member of Pirate: Contemporary Art, Denver’s longest-running co-op gallery.

Lauren Berley

Broomfield artist Lauren Berley practices both photography and mixed media. She explores themes of rank, status, and self-definition and often integrates vintage toys or childhood emblems in her work. She’s worked as a photographer since her early twenties, working in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and New York, and took up painting and drawing in 2013.

Jamesia Byrd

Denver artist Jamesia Byrd focuses her practice primarily on the figure and uses charcoal and spray paint to explore notions of nostalgia and femininity. She graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Katie Caron & Marie Perrin-McGraw

Denver artist Katie Caron explores fantasy, technology, the environment, and contemporary society in her mixed media works, sculptures, and installations. She holds an undergraduate degree from Boston University and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Southern California artist Marie Perrin-McGraw is inspired by the philosophy of the Arts and Crafts movement: fair wages, local production, ecological awareness, and independent business. She works as the lead ceramicist and painter at Lustered Walnut. She earned an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Sam Cikauskas

Boulder printmaker Sam Cikauskas explores the intersection between the environment and civilization, specifically through agriculture and gardening, in his practice. He earned his BFA from Northern Illinois University and his MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. He serves as director of printmaking at Flatiron Press.

Amber Cobb

Denver artist Amber Cobb investigates the primal and sensual nature of sexuality through manipulated mattress, stuffed animals, and bedding. The objects simultaneously imbue both the abject and the seductive. She received her MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Johnny DeFeo

Denver artist Johnny DeFeo explores human imposition on the natural environment. He creates paintings, photographs, latch-hook rugs, textiles, and wallpaper. Johnny earned his MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder and a BA from Western State Colorado University.

Kalindi DeFrances

Artist Kalindi DeFrances is a fifth generation Denverite. During the day, she works an art installer and fabricator. Her art practice grows out of a childhood experience at a wolf preserve in Durango. While there, she witnessed the staff chop up a dead horse that died from a throat infection to feed the wolves. Since then, she has wrestled with an enchanted and morbid fascination of the animal form. She now recreates animal skulls through careful observation, sculpting each one from scratch.

Michael Dowling

Denver artist Michael Dowling uses elements of classical style and technique combined with contemporary colors, icons, and shapes. His subjects showcase his signature expressive, gestural, haunting, and humorous style. He studied at Florence, Italy’s Il Instituto de Art, Scuola Lorenzo de Medici.

Jessye Ebbinghouse

Denver artist Jessye Ebbinghouse’s current practice stems from a previous series of photographed tangled ribbons as well as her dreams of snakes and water. Her water slide paintings are based on actual Google Earth images from Denver’s Water World. The slides simultaneously embody levity and joy but also abandonment of control. She graduated with a BFA from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. She grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia driving a golf cart.

Cory Feder

Cory Feder is an animator, comics illustrator, sculptor, tattoo artist, and musician. She earned a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Dylan Gebbia-Richards

Boulder artist Dylan Gebbia-Richards creates his unique works by building up layer after layer of brightly colored wax and resin. The finished works simultaneously evoke the textures of coral reefs, snow drifts, mountain ranges, lava flows, crystal formations, rock candy, and snow cones. He received a BFA in Painting and BA in Art History from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Deanne Gertner

Denver writer and artist Deanne Gertner explores toxic masculinity and feminine empowerment in her Things Men Said to Me series in which she sews phrases said to her by strangers, a Bumble date, and a former boyfriend unto the crotch of size small Tommy Hilfiger cotton skivvies. Deanne earned her BA from Regis University and her MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Denver artist Jason Gimbel is known for his abstracted, expressionistic figurative paintings. His instinctual approach, unusual color palettes, and lines complicate the boundaries between figure and background. Jason graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Jonathan Saiz

Denver artist Jonathan Saiz explores big nature, mysticism, rituals, crystals, and pop culture in his diverse artistic practice. He is one of the creators of The Fountain Tarot, a contemporary re-imaging of the Tarot Deck connecting geometry, internet culture, art, and spirituality. He studied at Parsons School of Design in both New York and Paris and at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore.

Denver artist Meagen Svendsen explores tensions between nature and society in her practice that utilizes ceramic, found natural materials, and auditory field recordings. Inspired by biology, ecology, and neuorscience, she instills her viewers with a broader sensory experience. Svendsen earned a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and her MH from the University of Colorado, Denver. Meagen will be playing the UMS with her band Avifauna.

Denver artist Rebecca Vaughan works in sculpture, installation, and performance and often uses gender-specific elements such as hand-knitting and needlework techniques in her practice. She investigates ideas of power, desire, relationships, and gender in her work. Rebecca received her MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder and her MFA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Joshua Ware

Denver artist and poet Joshua Ware’s FASHUN STUPH series began as material experiments that sought to develop a process for creating archival-quality, collages. The abstract geometries that comprise its content are indebted to an artistic trajectory that runs through Suprematism, Constructivism, Neo-Plasticism, and Bauhaus. Contemporary fashion magazines served as the source of its paper elements, focusing on a single season’s color palette. FASHUN STUPH, to this end, aggregates twentieth century high art with twenty-first century consumer culture and fashion.  While these disparate touchstones foster conceptual or ideological dissonance, they produce continuity within its visual aesthetic. He earned an undergraduate degree from Ohio University and an MFA from the University of Colorado - Denver.
